IEEE SustainTech to address energy consumption in data center processing of artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum applications; Registration, call for session proposals, and pitch competition now open

LOS ALTIMOS, Calif., 5 March 2025 – Today, the IEEE Computer Society (CS), Communications Society (ComSoc), Power and Energy Society (PES), and Signal Processing Society (SPS) jointly announced the details of the second annual IEEE SustainTech Leadership Forum (SustainTech), and registration, a call for session proposals, and applications for a start-up pitch competition are now open. Taking place 19-20 August 2025 in San Jose, Calif., U.S.A., IEEE SustainTech will focus on sustainable technologies for AI and quantum applications in data centers.

According to McKinsey & Co., data center power needs are set to skyrocket to more than three times higher than current capacity by the end of the decade. At the same time, while progress is being made, current estimates place power consumption well above target sustainability levels. The 2025 IEEE SustainTech Leadership Forum seeks to address these issues and identify ways companies can achieve significant savings and efficiencies by integrating sustainable technologies into AI and quantum applications data centers.

In addition to sessions exploring the evolution of technology, concrete solutions will be unveiled in the form of cutting-edge technology. The SustainTech 2025 Exhibit will feature companies offering solutions to address AI and quantum energy demands and data center needs. Looking to emerging solutions, SustainTech will also feature a Start-Up Pitch Competition that will reveal technologies that could be game changers for data center power consumption. Pitches will be evaluated on innovation and uniqueness, market opportunity, viability, and traction by a panel of judges of venture capitalists and corporate leaders working in the sustainable technology space.

Registration for IEEE SustainTech and the corresponding pitch competition is now open. For more information or to register, sponsor, or exhibit, visit https://ieeesustaintechexpo.org/.
